OP: You need to learn a few words in Khmer quick quick - ot-ay is what you needed to say here. Don't smile, joke or look compassionate, just say "ot-ay" . You don't have to shout but say it firmly like you mean it. I think you might have been looking too much like you were about to get your wallet out, and of course very poor people will read this as a signal to continue harassing you until you pay up.

You shouldn't give to riverside beggars anyway, it's a mafia. But when you have some small change like 500 or 1000 riel notes, put a few in a separate pocket, and then if you feel the need to give to someone, for whatever reason, just pull out some small notes, give it to them, and don't ask them if that's enough !
I will give money to some old people, but not to children, or to any beggars on riverside. And definitely not to anyone who gives me the shit.

Jl: thanks for a great learning video on how to push kids away lol, but OP you shouldn't need to touch them - just say no - unless they're glue-sniffing zombies, then get the hell away.

As others have stated, $5 for a 10 minute ride is not right.

As for Tuk-Tuks, I try to be hasty when dealing with them.

First, it makes them think I'm in a hurry, and they're already on the verge of blowing the deal.

Second, if you start with the right (low) price, they assume you know the price already. Better than asking them for a price.

Third, if you're hasty, it gives them less time to try and think of a way to manipulate you.

I also state the price, and if they hesitate (as to put on their scheming thinking-cap), I instantly start to walk away.

The WALK-AWAY is your biggest tool with these guys. More than half my Tuk-Tuk rides start with me walking away and them

yelling, "ok, ok, ok..."

About the Exnet app.

Why would an app for a taxi service need access to my phones, Photos/Media/Files, Camera, Wi-Fi connection information? :please:

They need to know that you don't need them and that you won't sit there and debate with them for 10 minutes over a dollar. Take it or leave it.

And I'm a victim of looking lost, which invites unwanted attention almost every time.

I like to just stop anywhere and look around, checking out the scene and deciphering street signs at my leisure.

It's back to that "hesitation." Those who hesitate look like a target.

I don't mind being fucked with by them, as I don't think I'd fall for much, but I know if I don't want to be approached, walk hastily.

Also, I need to write a post up about Exnet Cambodia Taxi.

It's like Uber, and is cheap as chips.

You set your location, and usually within 5 minutes you have an air conditioned ride in front of you.

I went from Russian Market, to Meta House and then to Pontoon, all for $4.

I went from street 278 to Pontoon for $1.

The price is 1,800 Riel per kilometer and 200 Riel per minute.

You can either set your destination on the GPS map or just point the way.

Most costumers are foreigners. I really hope all expats will use the app. It will definitely save you money and the more of us who sign up and use it, the more drivers will join.

I just got a ride from near Central Market to Lone Star in an SUV for a freaking dollar! Getting that price from a Tuk-Tuk would have been impossible.

Hell, you'll even get $1 off your first ride instantly if you use my referral code:

I walked by the Riverside tonight, a farang man was been held by a group of Cambodians surrounded by a crowd about 9pm tonight.

Some Cambodian woman was going off at the spectacled farang.

Police came and took him away along with a young boy.
Not sure what was going on.

Everything was going alright until i got a mototuk tuk ,at the traffic a woman carrying a baby demands money , i didnt want to get my wallet out and snyway a two small boys jump in as well and grab my shirt and pants in a playful way, the tuk tuk driver is laughing and not moving the tuk tuk !! So i decided to get out and he demanded $2 for a fare that was just one street, niw i didnt want to get my wallet out in front of Ma Baker and her two young sins so i just gave him a $5 note i had.
I was really angry with myself for not pushing them out but how can i push kids away?

Oh ? You think im lying about it? If that 's the case then this will be the last post by me.

The lady with the baby and the boys approached me in the same street as a bar 136 only down towards the water near the Grand Waterfront hotel.

Im sorry that every new poster has to appear to be a troll.

I dont have time to sit in my hotel room on my ipad writing made up stories.

I only asked you all because i had no idea how to approach that situations regarding the kids.

Retarrded waitress you claim there are no kids in this area, i will meet you tonight if you want and show you this area where i was approached, im staying at the Grand Waterfront hotel, im from New Zealand , i have nothing to troll or hide.

This will be my last post, i may post on another one for advice, i guess after living here in Cambodia you begin to lose your trust in peole, i have lost it after 3 days of being here so i dont blame you , however i am deeply offended.

And to the Mods i was not trolling, im here in PP and Im by myself so needed advice.

I didnt know how to react to that situation with the young boys jumping inside the tuk tuk and pinching me , i know it sounds funny but i didnt know what to do and all i did was ask you your advice, but im accussed of being a troll.

If you want I have no priblem in meeting anyone so if anyone wants to see where i was last night its in the same street as the Grand waterfront near 136 only down the end.
Im willing to meet up in fact i would rather have a farang tour guide so many if anyone is interested for a fair price can you contact me by private mail as this will be my last post, im not going to be belittled or abused on here.

But you retarded waitress never saw any kids accirding to you so never happened ?

Ok And thankyiu by the way for the exnet taxi , i ordered last night along with your code so got a disciunt and nice driver, i hope the guy who gave us ) was it you General?) discount code gets his disciunt too because I used your code, if you dont just private message me in here and I can give you the details of my booking etc., they sent me a receipt by email.

As for poster Bertros, i notice you have only 5 posts, it says you are a tourist, are you in Phonmnm Penh now so you can tell me im a liar, im staying at the Grand Waterfront and I can meet you outside .i bet your not even in PP Bertros!
And yiur 5 posts will just go to 10 and you"ll disapear !
Anither guy who hides behind a keyboard Bertros.

Thankyou to all who helped me Jamie, General Macveli, mark d and a few others.

So rather than hide behind your keyboard and be warriors why dont you meet me and you can say im a liar to my face, i dint mind , i will show you where this wiman and another man are who are running ariund holding a baby begging for money.
But none if you will because you are keyboard warriors , whompribaly arent even in PP.

So your calling ne bluff, im calling you bluff, lets meet up to the keyboard warriors on here who abused me , but you wont will you?

As for anyone who genuinly wants the meet you can pm me on here I think .

Thanks everyone General, jamie etc , and the paranoid ones either meet or shut up

And to the mods, what a ridicilous board if your accussed of being a troll when asking a question ??
Just because that Retarded poster said she didnt see any kids there last minth when she was there that im lying about last night?

I can assure you swear on the bible this woman holding the baby along with her two brats jumoed into my tul tuk , i have to be seen as lying about that ?

Anyway nevwho thinks im a liar as i said can meet me at the Grand Waterfront hitel or next doir at the indochine cafe .

I will be more than happy to meet up on the weekend and show you around, you can join me and my friends on our rounds (this wont end well, just ask Jamie....  ).

In 9 years of living here, I have never once seen any kids jump into a tuk tuk and ''frisk'' the passenger, that was what I called bullshit on.

Overall you seem very naive and trusting, I suggest you get harder with them and just tell them to fuck off, if you show any form of weakness and vulnerability, which from your posts you are, the tuk tuks and beggars will exploit this.

Anyway, my offer is open, drop me a PM if you are interested.
