i'd change in the UK
if u use the atms in Cambodia u will get the same bank rate PLUS u need to pay the withdrawal fees for the atm machine
Dont need riel ( and make sure u get rid of any u have before u head home) as there only used to give as change for purchases less than a $1

I thought you were talking about money, not tips that you would give to the bargirls.

my bank don,t charge me for using my card abroad, but i am sure ATMs charge a small fee. When i go to india i usually take cash to avoid the ATM charges. As for the bargirls i have some old Monopoly money.

There's a good reason why the banks dont charge for withdrawing money abroad in another currency . It's because they make more by giving you a shit exchange rate.

That's nonsense, and you'll find yourself at a disadvantage doing that. Many goods/ services are priced in Riel, not dollars and residents here use both.

I dont know which part you are referring to as nonsense, but I'm sure he will not be able to use riel if he takes them back to England.

some banks in the UK charge you a fee for using their card abroad,as for the rate you get? The bank doesn,t set the rate, in my case it would be Visa for my barclay account and the same for my nationwide account. If i use my Metro account then mastercard sets the rate.

I just phoned one of my banks (barclays). when i use my debit card to withdraw cash abroad they don,t set the rate, they use the bank rate of the day. So whatever card i use the rate is the same. The only difference is the fee which varys from bank to bank, barclays charge £1 50 per transaction, for nationwide there is no fee, and if i remember right Halifax is also free.
